Austin Harris was born at George Town Hospital to parents, the late Austin "Bossie" Harris Sr., a Civil Servant for nearly 30 years with the Mosquito Research and Control Unit and his wife, Rubenice "Ruby" Harris, a beautician and owner of Ruby's Beauty Salon. He has two siblings, David Frederick and Robert Michael Harris and is the proud Father to a son, Alexander Harris.

Austin attended Triple C School from K-12 graduating with academic scholars in Business Studies. He later earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance from the University of Miami and began his professional career in the financial services industry, first in Retail Banking and afterwards in Private Wealth Management until 2007.

In March 2008, Austin embraced a new career in broadcast media and joined "Cayman Crosstalk" on Rooster 101.9 FM where he pursued daily public debate in the interest of Caymanians generally and specifically, the communities concerns on; Crime, Employment, the Economy, Human Rights and major infrastructure projects, all in a balanced and well informed manner.

In 2015 he was recruited by Star 92.7 FM where he created a new talk platform, "Straight Talk with Austin Harris".

On March 22, 2017 Austin Harris announced his retirement from broadcasting while simultaneously declaring his intention to contest a seat in the 2017 General Election as an Independent Candidate for the new constituency of Prospect. Austin stood on a platform of; Equal opportunity for Caymanians, Employment of Caymanians, Empowerment of Caymanians, Reduction in Crime and a Diversification of the Cayman Economy.

On May 24, 2017 Austin was elected to office, and afterwards appointed to the post of Councilor within the Ministry of Human Resources, Immigration & Community Affairs lead by the Hon. Premier, Alden McLaughlin MBE, JP.
