Born and raised in the district of Bodden Town, the Honourable Osbourne “Ozzie” Bodden, JP, MLA is a deeply devoted husband to Nancy and proud father of his three children, Alexis, Gavin and Amber. He thrives on helping others, especially the most vulnerable in his community – children and the elderly. His focus and motivation has always been on building a better Cayman Islands for all.
Mr. Bodden’s commitment to the community and service to others has spanned thirty-five years. During this time, he has been a past President of Rotaract (during his high school years) and the Lions Club; the latter of which he is a lifetime member and Melvin Jones Fellow.
Mr. Bodden completed his A-Levels at the Cayman Islands High School and, in 1981, embarked on his training in Accounting with the Cayman Islands Government in the Treasury Department and later in the private sector with Ernst & Whinney and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC). In 1989, he became the Cayman Islands first appointed Insurance Analyst in the Insurance Department. In 1994, Mr. Bodden joined Mutual Risk Management as a Captive Insurance Manager.
In 2000, with the desire to contribute more to his country’s development, Mr. Bodden ran for political office. It was this shift in direction that encouraged his decision to become self-employed. Hence, in 2001, after 20 years in the financial services industry as a Public Accountant, Insurance Analyst, Captive Insurance Manager and VP of Operations, Mr. Bodden took over his family businesses.
In 2005, and again in 2013, Mr. Bodden was elected to represent and serve the people of Bodden Town. In the 2005 – 2009 People’s Progressive Movement administration, he served as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and played a major role in establishing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Youth Parliament, which is now an annual event where students of Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac Government and Private High Schools and CPA Youth Parliamentarians participate. Presently, Mr. Bodden is the Minister of Community Affairs, Youth and Sports in the Progressives administration.
