Full Agenda for CPA YPs

Debates on three timely motions form part of the business scheduled for the Third Youth Parliament of the Cayman Islands Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The Legislative Assembly is the venue for the Monday 10 March, Commonwealth Day session, during which 21 Youth Parliamentarians will debate motions on the environment, youth and Caymanian culture.
The rest will assume the roles of Governor, Speaker, Clerk and Serjeant-at-Arms.
The entire proceedings will be televised live by Westar TV Ltd on Island 24, Cable Channel 9, and broadcast on Radio Cayman starting at 7pm on FM 89.9 on Grand Cayman and FM 93.9 on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman over a two or three night period.
With the programme scheduled to start at 9 a.m., members of the public are expected to be seated in the public gallery between 8.45 and 8.55 am.
Remarks from the podium will be given by Chairman of the Organising Sub-committee W Alfonso Wright, MLA, while Speaker and Branch President of the Branch the Hon Edna M Moyle, JP, MLA, will present the welcome address. Both Joint Vice-Presidents of the Branch, Opposition Leader the Hon W McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP will also speak and Leader of Government Business the Hon D Kurt Tibbetts will formally open the Youth Parliament.
The public will see the Youth Parliamentarians being sworn in, the naming of Government Ministers and the assignment of their responsibilities.
Youth Parliament Leader of Government Business Marvin Hurlston and Leader of the Opposition Thea Bush will receive their instruments of appointment from the Youth Parliament Governor HE Alex Cowan. After Sidney Terry takes his oath of allegiance as the Speaker designate, the Governor departs.
Next to leave is the Speaker who re-enters in the company of Serjeant-at-Arms Taylor Myers. Clerk of the Youth Parliament Gabriella Mendoza-Hydes will read from the Proclamation, summoning a meeting of the CPA Third Youth Parliament.
Once the nomination and election of the Deputy Speaker is complete, the gathering will debate a Government Motion on the environment, brought to highlight the Commonwealth Day 2008 theme ‘The Environment – Our Future’. Next, they will debate a second Government Motion on the National Youth Policy. A Private Members’ Motion on the preservation and enhancement of Caymanian culture will conclude the proceedings.
